A koala is a furry unique animal that lives in the forests of Australia. It is not a bear, but a marsupial. This means that the animals have a pouch where they carry their baby. A koala spends lots of time sleeping on the branches of eucalyptus trees, which are also its main food source. A koala has a large head, big ears, a black nose, and long claws that help it grip & climb. Its fur colour varies from pale grey to grey-brown, depending on where it lives and what sort of koala. A koala’s closest living relative is the wombat, another burrowing marsupial. A koala is an iconic symbol of Australia and a protected species.
