Callan Park, Lilyfield - An amazing Historical Park

Callan Park is a
61-hectare heritage-listed site in Lilyfield a suburb in the Inner West of
Sydney about 10 minutes from the city.

It has an interesting
and diverse history that still affects people today and spans over 150 years,
from the colonial era to the wars & now the present day. People to this day
still have direct links to things that happened in the past to the park many
years ago.

Callan Park was
originally part of a large Balmain Estate owned by John Callan.

John Callan gave his
name to the park.

The government acquired
the land to build a hospital for the treatment of mental health disorders,
which was then known as the Callan Park Hospital for the Insane.
